Our
Vinyl
What
You Cant See Makes The Difference
The
most critical part of our Conservatories is the
vinyl. And what you cant see is how any particular
vinyl is manufactured which determines its
performance and durability.
What
is DuraBlend vinyl?
Ordinary
Vinyl:
Vinyl
window components are made through a process called
extrusion. The vinyl is forced through a "mold"
(called a die) that creates the proper shape of
the frame extrusion.
By
nature, vinyl is a stiff, brittle material that
can present several problems for extruders. Some
extruders still use homoplymer vinyls that require
lubricants, waxes, fillers and plasticizers. Plasticizers,
make the vinyl more flexible and easier to mold
while fillers make the vinyl less expensive. However,
as time goes by the plasticizers can "evaporate"
from the vinyl and degrade when exposed to UV light.
Fillers can easily compromise the quality of the
final product. The result is often a lower quality
finish.
DuraBlend
: A new generation of vinyl
DuraBlend
vinyl is a new generation of vinyl called uPVC.
The "u" stands for unplasticzed which
means the vinyl contains few (if any) of the plasticizers
and materials that can ultimately weaken and degrade
the window frame. uPVC uses copolymer vinyls, which
do not require extensive additives. However, beyond
this advanced vinyl, the Bel Air Conservatories
are further strengthened through the use of expensive
enhancers such as impact modifiers and acrylic stabilizers.
The result is an end product that retains its beauty
year after year, and a material that has amazing
strength properties.
